As a mom, I know firsthand how overwhelming and stressful it can be to navigate the complex world of IEPs and special education.
My journey into disability services began when my son was a baby and qualified for early intervention. When he was two and we were preparing for his transition to the school system, a parent training center gave me my first Wrightslaw book and said, "You're going to need this." I had no idea how true that would be. With advice from the parent training center, conversations with my family (who are educators), and that book in hand, I still walked into his first IEP meeting feeling unprepared to get him the support he needed.
That experience lit a fire in me. Through my journey advocating for my son, I quickly realized just how complicated this process was. If I was going to be an effective advocate for him, I needed to learn the IEP process inside and out. Along the way, as I gained knowledge and experience, I found myself helping countless families navigate the same challenges. Eventually, that path led me here—to help you. Now, with over eight years at the IEP table and extensive advocacy training, I bring not just expertise but also the empathy and understanding that only come from having lived this experience as a parent.
I've been through it all with my own son. He’s attended public school, private school, charter school, and homeschool. We’ve moved states and had to start over in a new district. I understand how frustrating it is to search for the right fit and how exhausting it can be to fight for the support your child needs. That’s why I’m here—to help you avoid some of those headaches and make sure your child gets the services they’re entitled to, no matter what educational path you choose.
I want to make sure you never feel alone in this process. I won’t stop until your child is getting the support, specialized instruction, accommodations, and therapies they need.
I will walk alongside you, helping you ask the right questions, understand and enforce your rights, and ensure your child's needs are reflected in their IEP or 504 plan. But I don’t just want to advocate for you, I want to empower you. As we navigate this together, my goal is to teach you the process so you gain the confidence and knowledge to advocate for your child for years to come.
I’ve successfully navigated IEPs and 504 plans for children with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, Tourette’s, learning disabilities, mental health challenges, and more (see below for a full list). I’m a proud graduate of COPAA’s SEAT 2.0 program, a yearlong, intensive training for special education advocates with a required practicum. I’m also trained and certified through Wrightslaw and Master IEP Coach® and maintain active memberships in leading advocacy organizations, regularly attending conferences and workshops to stay current on best practices.
I believe that parents are the most important members of the IEP team. You know your child best. You live with the day-to-day realities of their challenges and strengths. While others in the room may lose sight of the long-term impact of their decisions, you don’t have that luxury—because you and your child will be the ones living with those decisions for years to come.
That’s why I’m here: to help you find your voice and successfully advocate for the support your child needs to thrive—not just in school, but in life.
I can’t wait to cheer you on as we work to change your child’s future!
"Amber displayed an exceptional understanding of special education laws and procedures, as well as a strong capacity for case analysis. She came into the practicum with advanced knowledge, which she applied thoughtfully and consistently throughout her cases.
Her ability to navigate complex legal and procedural issues in special education was impressive, and her case management skills were exemplary."
